Blackthorn is regarded as a wood of
great power and a keeper of secrets due to its near-impenetrable
thorns. It is also considered to have a negative side which was
historically used for "binding and blasting". A blasting rod is a
Blackthorn wand with fixed thorns on the end, used to cause harm to
others through negative magick. Traditionally, a blasting rod was
longer than a regular wand and considered to be very powerful.
