Tree properties

Different trees have different energies which can have quite an influence on how a magickal item, such as a wand or staff, responds to your working.

Before you decide on which type of wood is best suited to your purpose, it may be worth having a look through the pages of tree properties to get an idea of the various energies of the different trees. For example, Rowan is excellent for protection whilst Birch is a tree of healing and cleansing. On the pages of tree properties you will find information on the name origins, folklore and magickal uses associated with the different types of wood.

On each page there is a table detailing the general availability of the wood and also the suitability for various magickal tools. The types of wood may not all be available at any one time but if there is a particular wood you would like, please email your request and we may be able to help.

Film: Wild Horses of Newbury

A beautiful and very moving short film dating from the Newbury bypass protests of 1996/7. This footage was filmed by Mark Carroll during a very cold February morning at a protest to prevent two Oak trees being destroyed. As the chainsaws are started, two horses roaming free run towards the felling. It's a very thought-provoking piece of footage and gives us a glimpse of how animals haven't lost their sense of the land and spirits of the trees as we humans have.

To view this short film please click here and a new page will open.

Please send this link to all those in your address book and let's try to raise awareness of what's being done to our land...
