Pottery - Smudging
bowls
|
|
Smudging is the process of using the smoke from incense or burning
herbs to cleanse a space or person. Herbs, such a Sage, can be tightly
bound together to form a smudge stick and then lit. The flame goes out
quickly and then smoke billows up from the burning herbs. The stick is
held over a bowl to catch any ash or sparks and the smoke can be
carefully blown around the area.
The smudging bowls on this page are also suitable for use as tealight
holders and holders for incense cones. The larger, deeper sided bowls
can also be used for burning loose herbs and loose incense on a
charcoal block. |

The finished items
sometimes have minor flaws, such as small hairline cracks, and
colour mottling - this is perfectly normal and is due to the ancient
techniques used in crafting. This is all part of the character of
the item and doesn't effect the use in any way. |
